“Haole Hula” Solo - Jerry Byrd - C6th

Tabs by David J. Stewart | March 2016

Jerry used his very interesting C Diatonic tuning to record this song from the “Byrd In Hawaii” album. (There's also a different version of the song on Jerry's “Hawaiian Beach Party” album, which is not tabbed here.) The hammer-on at the very end of the tabs, which requires a B note, gives it away. I've tabbed the song in standard C6th, and it is a really great song to learn, to fill your repertoire with tons of new ideas. I've slowed down the "Haole Hula" clip of the tabbed solo for you to hear the timing and study Jerry's work. Enjoy!

**BELOW: Many Jerry Byrd fans have difficulty figuring out what Jerry's playing because they assume Jerry's
using the C6th, but surprisingly, Jerry very often uses his incredible C Diatonic tuning (which is what he
used for this song). I tabbed it out in standard C6th, because that is what nearly everyone plays. If you
take a closer look at the C Diatonic tuning, it is indeed a C6th tuning, but Jerry included an F note and a B
note. Here's Jerry's C Diatonic (from low to high: E-F-G-A-B-C-E). You'll hear a hammer-on at the end,
which requires that B note, which is how I know that Jerry used his C Diatonic tuning to record this song.
I tabbed it differently, because there is no open B note. Really cool stuff! Enjoy!
