Bobbe Seymour Albums & Backing Tracks

by David J. Stewart | October 2026

By God's grace, I began learning and playing the beautiful pedal steel guitar in 1992. There was no public internet at that time, which I am so glad that I missed, because in many ways the internet has ruined the experience of learning to play pedal steel guitar. I used to love combing through various printed catalogs from Jeffran Music in Tennessee, Frenchy's Music in New Mexico, Scotty's Music in St. Louis, et cetera. It was so awesome!

I purchased thousands of dollars in albums, backing tracks and tablature, which items are no longer available. I think it is tragic that all of those previous invaluable resources have died off with the artists—Herby Wallace, Buddy Emmons, Jeff Newman, Tommy Roots, Leonard Zinn, Jimmy Crawford, Bobbe Seymour and so many others. I was friends with Bobbe Seymour. I met him in his studio in Nashville. Bobbe helped me buy my first steel D-10 steel guitar. I miss him. I am so glad that these recordings and backing tracks survived over the past 30 years and I still have them. Enjoy!

I started playing the pedal steel guitar in 1992 at age 25, before the internet came along. I loved it back then, looking through all the catalogs for steel guitar products and lessons from Jeffran Music in Tennessee, Frenchy's Music in New Mexico, Scotty's Music in St. Louis, et cetera. The internet has ruined everything in my humble opinion. It is so tragic that the great artists who pioneered the way in steel guitar have nearly all died off with their albums and learning resources. Herby Wallace, Leonard Zinn, Jeff Newman, Jimmy Day, Buddy Emmons, Herb Remington, John Hughey, Bobby Seymour, Ron Elliott and Jerry Byrd to name just a few steel guitar legends. We've lost so much in recent decades. When I started learning to play pedal steel guitar in 1992 it was the precipice of available resources to learn. I am so blessed. Today it is very difficult for new players to get started and learn. The price of pedal steels has skyrocketed unbelievably, while livable wages have stagnated since 1980. It is tragic.

That being said, I am sharing some of the invaluable resources of deceased players I have to preserve them for the next generation of steel guitar enthusiasts like me. I encourage you to download and share these resources. Enjoy!
